Your trip to Amsterdam cost HOW much?

V Adventures

Here’s the lowdown on how much 4 nights in Amsterdam cost 2 people.

All ticketed activities are included in this cost, and we always have a bit of a buffer for each trip [around £50] for contingency. For transparency, I have a 12 month travel insurance policy with Puffin Insurance, and so I do not include this cost in any of my trip budgets as it was paid for separately. Some other things that can help bring the cost down can be found here.

This is inclusive of all travel, accommodation and spending money - no expense is spared!

Keep in mind that we visited Amsterdam in March, and so this helped with costs as we did not visit during peak season.

Travel - £166

We flew in and out of Luton Airport to Shipol with Easyjet, and as we booked these quite far in advance we got a great #deal on them. You usually can find pretty cheap flights to Amsterdam as it’s a popular destination from UK, and so don’t go paying over the odds for flights.

I always use Skyscanner to find the best flights for my trips, as they display flights with all airlines, so it makes it super easy to find the best deal.

That being said, when flying long haul I'd recommend either flying with the same airlines regularly to build up Air Miles & Frequent Flyer Points, or opening up multiple cards and accounts so you can always capitalise on the best deals! More on that can be found here.

Accommodation - £421

We stayed at Sonder Hotel which is right next to Vondelpark. We paid a little more than we’d have liked but this was due to us cancelling this trip in 2021 and moving it to March 2022. We loved this place so much that we stayed there again in July 2022!

It’s worth remembering that lots of European cities have a ‘city tax’ that is usually payable upon arrival, and this is typically €2 per person per night. To avoid getting charged in a foreign currency on your card, we always use our WISE card which has saved us a lot of fees over the years.

Daily spend - £486

The daily spend includes food, drinks, miscellaneous items such as sun cream, plasters, souvenirs etc. For reference, we ate out for lunch and dinner everyday, and grabbed a pastry and coffee to-go each morning.

The places we went to ranged from cheap ‘grab and go’ eateries to boujie restaurants. Included in these costs were our visits to ‘Coffee Shops’.

Activities - £142

Although I used to live in Amsterdam, when it was Dan’s first time we went full tourist and saw all of the sights! Paid activities that we did were:

Total cost - £1,306

Average cost per day: £290 // pp £145

Amsterdam has a great mix of paid and free activities, making it a great city to explore on the cheaper side!

We found our accommodation was a little expensive in comparison to other trips, which could easily be reduced by staying elsewhere. However, for the location of Sonder being right by Vondelpark, it was a price worth paying!

There are many factors that could increase or decrease the total cost, of which a few are:

- The time of year you visit

- What your priorities are for your trip [eating out, sightseeing etc]

- Your travel style [hostel, hotel, villa etc]

- How far in advance you book

- What sites you use to book

Here are some tools that I always use to ensure I'm getting the best value for my trips and that there are no hidden costs.
