Barcelona Food Guide
We love Barcelona for many reasons..
Reason 1
It's the only city that has a building that has made Dan shed a tear (thank you Sagrada Familia).
Reason 2
It’s the first city we saw a full blown Flamenco Show in. More about this can be found on our blog!
Reason 3
You guessed it - the bloody food! WHAT a city, it’s truly got it all and it also holds the record for being the only city that made me bloat to the point I began morphing into a house, it's all great!
Coffee
Morrow coffee is a great little roastery and brewbar - if you happen to visit Barca in the warmer months I recommend parking up out front in one of their alfresco tables, grabbing an icy brew and watching the people pass - bangin’ coffee and a kraken location to boot!
If you’re into your coffee then you’ve got to visit Nomads brewbar and lab. Go sit at the bar, interact with the baristas and ask for their recommendations on pourovers. These guys are one of the most prolific specialty roasters in Spain, they know their shit!
Lunches
If you're like us, and choose to fully immerse yourself into Spanish culture through drinking, eating and staying out late exploring, chances are you too will need a healthy option to balance it all back out. Honest Greens have a few places dotted around Spain and Portugal and their ever colourful bowls and plates are just the thing to ensure you get all your greens in time to drink a couple more bottles of wine!
If you’re picky or just like to have a bit of this and a bit of that then La Boqueria is worth a visit, in fact if you’re neither of the two mentioned it's still worth a visit! Yes it’s touristy and yes it can get quite busy but the sheer scale of this market is enough to move you past the crowds. Absolutely shit loads of stalls line the inside of this market. We recommend hitting a few different spots and finding a sunny spot outside to enjoy your finds - wash it all down with a Jarriots soda and you’re golden!
Dinners
I would describe El Nacional as the Crown Casino of food courts, for those of you that have been lucky enough to lose a fuck load of cash at the crown casino, you’ll know that the scale and design is something that can suck you in. El Nacional is the same - 4 bars, 4 restaurants under 1 roof make for 1 epic, epic time! We had dinner at The Taperia and it was fantastic, expect to wait a little while for a table if you show up on the weekend or anytime after 7pm.
Hot tip - if you do vist The Taperia, go for COCA DE ESCALIVADA CON QUESO DE CABRA Y JAMÓN IBÉRICO CATALAN - a beautiful pastry like bread topped with iberico ham, goats cheese and grilled veg - bloody divine!
La Gastronomia was maybe my favourite meal of all. On our last night in Barca and the last night of our 11 night trip through Spain and Portugal, we opted for La Gastronomica as it was right around the corner from our hotel and it caught our attention. So, on a beautiful and crisp Octobers evening we sat outside and ate such an epic meal. The service here is top tier - none of this cold shoulder shit because you’re not from here - just gratitude that you’re there and eating their food.
Drinks
Garage Bar is the spot if you’re looking for good wine. This little wine bar is epic - I recommend going here just before the sun sets, nabbing one of the few tables out front and sharing a bottle of wine with your lover! Get a few olives and some pan con tomate to go with and you’re setting yourself up for a magical evening in a city that truly has it all!
