Best areas to visit in Sydney

V Adventures

Sydney has something for everyone, from epic beaches, boozy brunches, nature walks and underground nightlife. Depending on what you're looking for, you might be best spending more time in certain suburbs, and steering clear of others.

Here are my favourite areas to visit in Sydney, and why you should make the trip over.

1. Marrickville

This was my home for a couple of years in Sydney, and will always be one of my top spots to visit. I might be biased, but it really does have it all [except for a beach!].

Where to eat

Marrickville Pork Roll, Pizza Madre, Emma's Snack Bar

Where to drink

Vic on the Park, The Warren View, Grifter - or one one Marrickville’s 457398539847 breweries! Roastville for a coffee

What to do

Take a walk through Marrickville Park, take yourself on a self guided brewery tour, play the famous aussie ‘barefoot bowls’ and have the cheapest schnooners of beer [375ml] at Marrickville Bowlo.

2. Newtown / Enmore

Newtown and Enmore is where it’s at. It’s hipster/grungey/edgy and different, and it’s very popular with everyone in the Inner West. It’s known for nightlife, live music, epic pubs and vintage shops, and is definitely worth a stop on your Sydney hit list.

Where to eat

Epic Pizza, Cairo, Taste of Turkey, Italian Bowl, Cow&Moon, Continental Deli, Bella Brutta

Where to drink

The Duke of Enmore, Mary’s, The Courthouse Hotel, Young Henry’s, the Marley

What to do

Go and see a gig at the Enmore Theatre or one of the many other music venues, go thrift shopping, take some beers and have a picnic in Camperdown Park, play a game of Holey Moley

3. Bondi

Tourist central and a very popular place to live, a trip to Sydney isn’t complete without a visit to Bondi.

Where to eat

Fish Shop, Bennett St Dairy, Bondi Trattoria

Where to drink

Icebergs, The Royal Bondi, The Social, The Shop & Wine Bar

What to do

Do the Bondi to Coogee Walk, spend the afternoon on the famous Bondi Beach, visit the exclusive Icebergs or play some fancy bowls at Bondi Bowls Club

4. Manly

North of the Bridge and past the spit, you’ll find this beautiful suburb! It’s known for its epic views, classy vibe and great bars and restaurants.

Where to eat

Pocket Pizza, Hugo’s, El Catina

Where to drink

Manly Pavilion, Donny’s, Wharf Bar, 4 Pines Brewery

What to do

Do the Manly to the Spit walk, have an afternoon on the beach, check out Shelly beach, do the North Head Sanctuary walk.

5. Darlinghurst

Darlinghurst is a dark horse and it may not come up as the most popular places to visit in Sydney, but it’s home to a lot of cool places.

Where to eat

Wings n Tins, Surly’s, Bills, Ms G's, Mr Crackles, Messina Gelato, Spice Alley [Chippendale]

Where to drink

Stanley’s on Stanley, The Winery, Darlo Bar

What to do

Walk down Oxford Street and enjoy the late night clubbing scene that is slowly coming back to Sydney, chill out at the Domain.

Sydney is also home to many of Australia's most popular beaches! For more info on my favourite beaches, check out my blog post 'Best Beaches in Australia'
