Top sights in Florence
Florence is so beautiful, you could just spend your time walking around aimlessly and you'll come across endless buildings, gardens, bridges and entertainment! However if you're after something a little more structured, then keep on reading for my top sights in Florence.
“Take a walk through this famous Piazza and prepare to be blown away. ”
1. Piazza del Duomo
Take a walk through this famous Piazza and prepare to be blown away. This is home to a number of significant buildings in Florence such as:
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore - this is the third largest church in the world, and is an absolute picture. From the outside, it does not look real - the design and intricate patterns are mesmerising!
Giotto's Bell Tower - If it isn’t stinking hot, go and climb the bell tower. Not only will you get stunning views of Florence, but you’ll also be climbing the most beautiful bell tower in Italy [arguably]. There are around 400 steps needed to climb in order to get to the top, so be warned!
Baptistery of San Giovanni
Dome by Brunelleschi
2. Piazzale Michelangelo
Head up to Piazzale Michelangelo for either sunrise or sunset, and see the incredible panoramic views. This is a great spot to take a couple of beers and watch the sunset, and it’s also where you’ll find a replica of Michelangelo's David.
3. Ponte Vecchio
Italian for ‘Old Bridge’, the Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge across the Arno river until 1218, and is such an interesting bridge not only for its history, but also its appearance. There are various coloured buildings, windows and walls almost ‘hanging’ off the side of the bridge, and it makes for a great photo. You can also walk across this bridge to get great views of the Arno river.
4. Boboli Gardens
Boboli Gardens are home to manicured greenery, statues, sculptures, fountains and architecture, and are definitely worth a visit! Tie this in with a trip to Pitti Palace and you’ll have a great cultural morning!
5. The Uffizi
The Uffizi is a world famous Gallery, known for its collections of ancient sculptures and paintings. You can find work from Giotto, Rafaello and Michelangelo inside this gallery!
