Top sights in Naples

V Adventures

Naples is full of cool shit. But the surrounding areas of Sorrento, Pompeii etc make it even more desirable. I actually spent 4 nights in Naples and here's what I managed to see.

1. Teatro San Carlo

This was hands down one of the most spectacular buildings I have ever been inside. It is absolutely STUNNING. Magical. Breathtaking. I am usually more impressed with landscapes and natural formations over buildings, however this really did something to me. Pay the 10 EUR to do the guided tour and trust me, it’s even more beautiful in person. It’s also one of the oldest Opera Houses in the world, and yet still looks so incredible!

2. Pompeii

OK so Pompeii is not actually in Naples, but whilst you’re there it is something that has to be done. Take a day trip out there and prepare to be blown away by the sheer shock of how that disaster actually took place. It was so fascinating to learn about what happened and to see how things are now. You can read my blog post on ‘how to do Pompeii and Vesuvius in a day trip without a guide’ for more info on how to do this from Naples.

3. Mount Vesuvius

Although it hasn’t erupted since 1944, you can still say that you've climbed an ‘Active’ Volcano by getting a ticket and climbing Mt Vesuvius. It’s not a hectic climb although be careful with the heat if you’re going in the summer months, but it’s definitely something to add to your list when visiting Naples. Like Pompeii, it’s also not in Naples itself and so will require a day trip to visit it. You can read my blog post on ‘how to do Pompeii and Vesuvius in a day trip without a guide’ for more info on how to do this from Naples.

4. Castel Nuovo

Located near the port of Naples, Castel Nuovo was first built in 1279 - that is ridiculous!

It’s also known as City Hall, and is very impressive. You can take a closer look inside if you wish, as they also have an art gallery inside.

5. Ovo Castle

Located on the Seafront, this castle will give you great views of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The whole area along the water is great to explore and full of restaurants, bars and cafes, and so be sure to have a look around whilst you’re there.

I also saw Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi AND Ravello whilst in Naples. Check out my '8 hours on the Amalfi Coast' post to see how I did it.
